A massive protest has been planned to be held against the Tuticorin based Sterlite Factory on March 24. The protest has been organized after seeking permission from the Madurai Bench of Chennai High court. The Sterlite factory owned by Vedanta groups is located in the Tuticorin Sipcot premises. 

 


There have been numerous instances over the years, of people protesting against the factory that it has been polluting the environment, and affecting the groundwater levels of the city. In this scenario, the Vedanta groups have started the expansion of Sterlite factory which is in its initial phase. People of Kumarediarpuram, where Sterlite is located, have been conducting various protests since February, stating that their life and resources will be impacted by Sterlite.

Recently, the head of the group against Sterlite, Krishnamoorthy has decided to organize an awareness meeting on 17th March at Rajaji Park, which was denied permission by the district municipality. However, with the permission given by the Madurai bench of Chennai high court, a massive protest is all set be held on Mach 24 against Sterlite.
