In the recently held meeting for the backward classes, at Karanataka's Haveri district by BJP Party, in the presence of their leader Amit Shah, the very less turnout of people, and an almost empty hall, has sent the party and its members into a state shock. With the Karnataka Assembly elections scheduled to be held on May 12, and the ongoing tussle between Congress and BJP, both the parties are seen trying their best to woo general public from different sections and castes of the society.
While Lingayats were often seen as BJP's prime vote bank, the Sidharamaiah lead congress completely attracted them to their side, by announcing minority status to the Lingayats. In such a situation, in an attempt to woo the backward classes, a meeting was organized by former Deputy CM and BJP member Eswarappa, at Haveri, and it must be noted that Eswarapa and Sidharamaiah belong to the same caste.
While a huge turnout was expected
and seating arrangements were in place to accommodate 1 lakh people, only 5000
people had come to the meeting much to the shock of BJP Leader Amit Shah, who
was frustrated. It has been said that Congress party's Rahul Gandhi meeting
Niranjanandha, and Yedyurappa's tiff with Eswarappa are the major reasons
behind BJP setback.
