Farmers have been protesting in Gujarat against the seizing of agricultural lands for the construction of thermal power plant. Now, the situation has become tense in the state, with more than 5259 farmers threatening to commit Suicide condemning the inhuman act by the government to acquire their lands, and the farmers have given letters demanding the permission to commit Suicide.
The Gujarat government is planning to construct a thermal power plant in Bhavnagar area of the state. For this purpose, the state government had planned to acquire agricultural lands from more than 12 villages of Bhavnagar district. The farmers of the state have been fighting against the government for more than 20 years.
The protests had even taken an ugly
turn recently, with the cops resorting to usage of tear gas against protesting
farmers. Following this inhuman and unethical act by the cops, the farmers of
the villages have given a petition to the district collector to provide
permission to commit Suicide.
