The number of ragging incidents has increased to new heights over the past five years. To be precise, a 75% increase has been noted annually over the past five years. Among all the states, the highest number of ragging complaints comes from Tamil Nadu and the least number of ragging complaints comes from Telangana.

Tamil Nadu reported the maximum number of ragging incidents at 165 in South India, followed by Kerala with 151 and Karnataka with 139. The number of ragging incidents has increased drastically from 41% in 2013 to 75% in 2016.

When it comes to whole India, Uttar Pradesh is the topmost state with the maximum number of complaints followed by Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. The UGC brought in regulations to curb the menace of ragging in 2009. Andhra Pradesh has complaints of 98.
