Accordingly almost a week after Cyclone Gaja ravaged the coastal and the Cauvery delta districts in Tamilnadu, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has sought Rs 15,000 crore from the central government towards permanent rehabilitation of the affected districts. Meanwhile he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, on Thursday. Furthermore when speaking to reporters after the meeting, the CM said that the state government has also demanded Rs 1,500 crore towards temporary rehabilitation.



He said “He met the Prime Minister this morning and informed him about the damages caused by Cyclone Gaja and presented a memorandum with the details of the damages to him and he had pressed the PM to grant Rs 1,500 crore towards temporary rehabilitation in the first stage”. Further the CM also added that the PM has agreed to send a central team to visit the affected areas at the earliest and assess the damages caused by the cyclone.

Moreover according to the memorandum presented to the PM, Rs 7,077 crore has been requested for Tamilnadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) for restoring electricity in the affected areas, and Rs 6,000 crore for providing relief to those who had lost their homes partially or completely to the cyclone.
