After the green tribunal order to reopen Sterlite copper in Thoothukudi was dismissed by Supreme Court, Vedanta group has again filed a plea to Chennai high court to reopen the plant. 



People of Thoothukudi had been for decades fighting against Sterlite and last year there was extensive protests against the environmental hazards and health impacts causing Sterlite and demanding its closure, and on 100th day, people were attacked and 13 were shot dead by police. Following this TN govt ordered sealing of Sterlite and after Vedanta appealed to green tribunal they ordered reopening stating that there are no environmental issues because of Sterlite.

However TN govt appealed to Supreme Court against Green tribunal order, which lead to court dismissing green tribunal order.  Now Vedanta has made a plea at the Chennai high court to reopen Sterlite,and the hearing will  be coming soon. Let's see what happens right now. However, sources say Sterlite can never be reopened.
