Following the ban on tourists, the tigers count has increased in Mundanthurai tiger’s sanctuary. There are 37 tiger sanctuaries all over the state and Mundanthurai is located in Kalakkaddu in Tirunelveli. Measures were taken by forest department to let them develop habitat and breeding and following this a ban was imposed on tourists from 2009.
After tourist ban there are lot of species of deer, elephants, dogs and tigers in the area. It has yet again been proven that with the absence of human interference animals can develop breed and grow, and CCTV footage has been used to monitor them. Near Courtallam cheetah presence has increased.
