Lord Ganesh procession in Hyderabad city on Wednesday has left unattended garbage of nearly 1500 tones. That is what the GHMC claims .And that is the garbage on roads and gullies of Hyderabad after the immersion of nearly 62,000 idols (almost 10,000 idols more than last year). Reason, the last year of United AP.
Sources in police department say that most of these idols were financed by corporate groups like transporters, car rentals and real estate operators as most of them would be worst hit in the Telangana (that is what they feel). Almost 12 lakhs attended the Ganesh procession in spite of rains and traffic hurdles.
GHMC officials said there would be almost another 2000 tones of wastes including steel, POP( plaster of parries) ,clay and other garbage in the Hussein agar bed which will be dredged out in due course of time .’ Pollution to lake and city 75 % extra this year‘says municipal officials .
According to unofficial figures nearly 1.7 lakh idols were installed of which only 62,000 came to Husseinsagar while rest in 47 other lakes in and around city .about 17 lakh homes also had installed idols.'Ourdaily garbage intake is 3300 tones per day but during last 10 days it touched over 4000 tones daily 'says Krishna Babu,GHMC commissioner. So Ganesh festival is not just sweets, merry making but also garbage and wastes as well. Only relief was that almost 40 percent of idols were clay and not POP or colors, say environmentalists.
