According to sources DMK has petitioned the Secretary of the Tamilnadu Assembly, seeking to bring a motion of no-confidence against Speaker P Dhanapal. Meanwhile the move by the main opposition party in the state comes hours after the Speaker sought an explanation from three ruling party MLAs over their alleged 'anti-party' activities. Furthermore the petition, on behalf of Leader of the Opposition and DMK President MK Stalin was submitted by DMK Rajya Sabha MP and party Organizing Secretary RS Bharathi on Monday.

Apparently this comes days after the AIADMK's Chief Whip complained to the Speaker seeking legal action against three MLAs for "anti-party activities." Furthermore Tamilnadu Law Minister CVe Shanmugam and AIADMK Whip S Rajendran had met with Speaker P Dhanapal on Friday seeking to disqualify three AIADMK MLAs: Aranthangi MLA Rathinasabapathy, Virudhachalam MLA Kalaiselvan and Kallakurichi MLA Prabhu.

Moreover the MLAs have been vocal in their support of AMMK chief and RK Nagar MLA TTV Dhinakaran, who was expelled from the AIADMK. Perhaps this is not the first time the DMK has moved a motion of no-confidence against the Speaker. Earlier in March 2017, the DMK's motion against Speaker Dhanapal was defeated with 122 MLAs voting against it.
