Accordingly in a major inconvenience to passengers, over 31 trains with stops at Alappuzha were cancelled, and nine partially canceled due to the dismantling of a new bridge in Kottayam. Reportedly since May 24, several trains running via Alappuzha were cancelled in batches to build a new bridge in Kottayam. Meanwhile 31 trains stood cancelled on May 25, six trains were cancelled on May 26. Partial cancellation of nine trains was announced on May 25.

Furthermore the cancellation of trains has caused disruption for passengers and the cancellation of major trains such as Ernad Express and parasuram Express has left several commuters in the lurch, as they had to take buses or find other ways to travel. Apparently due to mass cancellation of trains, the kerala RTC buses saw huge crowds during these days. kerala RTC staff was stationed at the Alappuzha railway station, in order to start services in case there was a rush of passengers. Perhaps special buses were also being run from Alappuzha to Kottayam, to make up for the cancelled trains.



Moreover among the trains which were cancelled on multiple days were Ernad Express which runs from Nagercoil to Mangalore and vice versa; Vanchinad Express which runs from Ernakulam to Thiruvananthapuram; parasuram Express which runs from Nagercoil to Mangalore; Vanad Express from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam; Palaruvi Express from tirunelveli to Palakkad.
