Amaravathi sources stated that the continuing heavy floods in godavari river has affected over 74,000 people in parts of East and West Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh with nearly 18,510 of them being shifted to 77 relief camps, officials said on Monday. Reportedly a second warning signal has already been issued at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram as water flow in the river, which has been in spate since last week following heavy monsoon rains, crossed the 13 lakh cusecs mark on Sunday morning and almost the entire quantum was being let out into the Bay of Bengal.
Accordingly a total of 384 Villages covered in 27 mandals are affected in East and West Godavari Districts. Meanwhile flood water discharged at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage, Dowaleswaram where the inflow was at 12, 47,974 cusecs and outflow was 12, 47,974 cusecs of water. Furthermore transportation to 19 villages has been cut off and the Yedduvagu bridge and Siddaramvagu bridge were submerged, causing transportation problem and more than 17,000 houses have been marooned.
Moreover more than 125 medical camps were organized by the state government where 78 of them were in East Godavari and 47 in West Godavari. District Collectors have taken relief measures and as of now situation is under control and teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force reached out to the affected areas for distribution of Essential Commodities like Rice, Kerosene, Red Gram and essential supplies like food and water.
