Heavy Rains are lashing hyderabad from the last few days and the roads are literally becoming Rivers. Commuters are facing hell on roads stranding for hours while going from the Offices in the evening. Telangana Government has come under severe criticism for the bad maintenance of roads after the abject failure of GHMC and its contractors to keep the roads in good shape and fix potholes on time.
Now, the Standing Committee of the Greater hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed to hand over 687 km of roads in hyderabad to private players for maintenance for a period of five years. If the work is outsourced, the GHMC’s political representatives feel it will ease the pressure off them and help them demand accountability from the private agencies that have bagged the contracts.
But then, this is the proposal only for 687 km of the total 9000 km of road length in the city. So, this will not solve the problem entirely and we will be still at the mercy of the GHMC contractors. kcr Government is facing a major backlash and is worried about its prospects in the upcoming GHMC Elections.
