Reportedly Chennai’s drought this summer was a topic discussed widely across the world. Meanwhile the city had a good run during the south-west monsoon (June to September), recording an excess of 34% rainfall. Furthermore according to the information provided on Regional Meteorological Centre’s web page, Chennai received 587.8 mm of rainfall as opposed to its normal measurement of 439.6 mm.

Currently with the north-east monsoon not far away, Chennai is expected to receive light rains for the next two days. Perhaps the latest weather bulletin from Met department, issued at 10.00 pm on Friday, predicts light rains that are likely to occur in some areas of the city over the next 48 hours. Apparently the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 34 and 27 degree Celsius respectively in the city.



Moreover this comes as an improvement to the week ending October 2 that recorded a deficit of 39%. Perhaps N Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, Chennai had said that the NE monsoon could start after the third week of October this year around and further the intensity of the rain in the city may increase after October 15 if a system forms and develops over the Bay of Bengal.
