BJP to ride on TDP wave in Hyderabad? by: saraswathi nikhil | April 09 2014 15:27 [IST] After clinching a pre-poll alliance with the Telugu Desam Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly all set to regain its lost ground in the Greater Hyderabad area. BJP will be contesting from seven Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad out of which two are in the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district. BJP leaders hope the party would make a comeback by winning at least six assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat with the support of TDP in Greater Hyderabad. Sources remind that the TDP and BJP alliance worked out well during the general elections in 1999. The BJP's best performance in the city so far was with an alliance with the TDP in the 1999 when they bagged three assembly seats Musheerabad, Malakpet and Maharajgunj. The TDP too benefited from the deal and secured five assembly constituencies. They are Secunderabad, Sanatnagar, Khairatabad, Secunderabad Cantonment and Himayatnagar. In the 2009 general elections, the BJP was reduced to only one seat, Amberpet which Kishan Reddy won with a margin of 27,243 votes. The party has been losing its sheen in the past two general elections for not having any alliance with any party.
