The first session of 16th Lok Sabha started with massive protests and tearing of the copies of President Pranab Mukherjee's copy which ended with the House being adjourned for one day. Parliamentary affairs minister Santosh Gangwar announced the tabling of Polavaram bill to replace the ordinance issued recently for transfer of seven mandals of Telangana to the residuary state of AP. Immediately , TRS MPs under AP Jitender Reddy , leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, rushed to the speaker’s well in protest. They have demanded that Polavaram dam issue has to be placed on hold till a meeting of all chief ministers of the four states is held for a consensus. Incidentally, even Biju Janata Dal members from Odisha also joined the chorus against Polavaram dam. The speaker had advised the members from Telangana and Odisha that they will be given the time to air their grievances when the bill will be taken up for consideration. Well Seemandhra MP’s seem to be having the last laugh because three months back same scenes were witnessed and though they protested hard, the AP bifurcation bill was passed and now they hope that never mind TRS sloganeering, the bill will get passed.
