A toss of a coin is expected to eventually seal the fate of hundreds of All India Services (AIS) officers who are serving now in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana after the Centre has reportedly ruled out allotting them to two states based on their nativity or local considerations. Sources say that there are high chances that Rajiv Sharma, the current chief secretary of Telangana, may get into Andhra cadre, while his AP counterpart IYR Krishna Rao would likely end up serving Telangana. Under the instructions of PM Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister’s Office has reportedly directed the department of personnel and training (DoPT) that IAS, IPS and IFS officers for AP and Telangana, should not be given any ‘option’ to decide preferred cadre. In this regard, the Prathyush Sinha committee has reportedly prepared a draft guideline which now depends on which side the coin lands. Now officers need to choose whether they want residuary Andhra Pradesh or Telangana, before the coin goes up. Modi has reportedly taken this decision after receiving repeated requests from AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM KCR regarding allotment of specific officers to their state since he feels that confusion will rein if he agrees to requests by both CM’s.
