Former President of India Pratibha Patil is known for “mother of mercy” for all death convicts. She hold a record of sanctioning new life to all around 40 convicts who involved in mass murder, Kidnapping, rape and killing of children. None of the former Presidents was as merciful as Pratibha in Indian Parliament. Rashtrapati Bhavan at that time also defends their decision on sanctioning mercy petitions in large scale.
It seems that incumbent President of India Pranab Mukherjee acted differently to his predecessor. During his two year term, Pranab Mukherjee rejected 22 mercy petitions out of 29. Kasab was also one among them who hanged in Mumbai Terrorist attacked case. Pranab denying the sanction mercy petition to Azmal Guru who played vital role in attacking the Indian Parliament in 2001. Thanks to Sonia for not giving chance to Pratibha for second term.
Recently, Pranab was rejected mercy petition of Vasnik who was raped and murder 3 year old girl in 2007. Home Ministry was involved in this case and refers to the President for Mercy. Pranab was rejected Home Ministry reference in this case. In last month, President was rejected the petition of serial Murder Surinder Koli. In one case, President agreed to reduce death sentence to life time.
