AP has given special status as mentioned in the Telangana bill. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced to give 5 years to AP as Special Status in Rajya Sabha. BJP and TDP have demanded to extend 10 to 15 years for the state. They argued that 5 years are not enough for getting new investments into the state.
Planning Commission said that it can’t possible to get Special Status to AP. The state doesn’t fulfill to meet the criteria to get Special Status. On other side states like Bihar and Jharkhand also demand the centre for Special Status if AP would get Special Status. BJP ruling NDA Government maintained silence on giving Special Status. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that BJP government would definitely consider for Special Status to AP.
After Prime Minister Modi’s Independence speech yesterday hopes to the people of AP have revived on getting Special Status. Narendra Modi was announced to scrap the constitutional body Planning Commission saying that it was traditional and not cope up to the assumptions of latest developments. Modi has assured that new system will be replaced 64 year old Soviet Model Planning Commission. AP Government feels that this is great news for AP to get Special Status.
