It looks like that the race to the countries presidency is heating up, with each passing day. The opposition nominee for the highest office of the country i.e. Mr.Sangma, launched a complaint with the returning officer; that the nomination of Mr.Pranab Mukherjee, the nominee of the ruling party for presidency is invalid, as he is holding a position of profit, in the form of the Chairmanship of the Indian statistical Institute (ISI), Calcutta.
This allegation was denied instantly by the Pranab’s authorised representative and parliamentary affairs minister P.K.Bansal who said that Pranab had resigned as Chairman, ISI, on June 20, a week before he filed his nominations. It is learnt that Pranab Mukherjee would be filing a written reply,on this issue to the Returning Officer tomorrow. On the other hand the ISI also stated on its part, that Pranab has resigned to its chairmanship on June 20th.But, the issue arose because, ISI’s website did not get updated, as to this resignation and it does hold till of late today the name of Pranab,as its chairman.
On the other hand Naveen Patnaik, BJD chief alleged that Mr Mukherjee had doled out huge amounts of money in his role as Finance Minister to several states in order to get support for his candidacy.
Looks like that the race to the top is really heating up, with the opposition candidate and his friends trying to overturn every stone, in order to win the battle, perhaps hoping that ‘Miracles could happen,’ as it was put upon by Mr.sangma himself, in the Karan Thapar’s show i.e. ‘Devil’s Advocate.’
