The power situation in the newly formed Telangana state is all set for a big boost this summer courtesy the two units in Andhra Pradesh. They are the Gayatri in Nellore and the gas-based Lanco plant owned by Lagadapati Rajagopal, located on the east coast.

A 600-MW unit of the 1,320-MW Thermal Powertech Corporation India (TPCL) has reportedly started its commercial generation recently and Telangana would be getting 53.89 per cent or 360 MW as the state’s share.

The commercial operations date for a second unit is expected to be in June. More relief has come for the state with fertiliser ministry reportedly conveying its nod for swapping Regassified Liquefied Natural Gas with the K-G Basin few days back.

This will be supplying Telangana 242 MW out of a total of 450 MW. Gas produced from the KG-D6 block would be going to the Lanco unit, situated closest to the pipeline, the generation of which has already started. So than what is said on record, TS gets power from AP, while KCR and Co don’t even mention about it.
