Allaying the recent fears of thousands of employees who have been working for the Andhra Pradesh government while they are based in Hyderabad, the Union law ministry has reportedly clarified that their children would be accorded `local' status minus the need to amend the crucial Section 371D of the Presidential Order issued in 1975.

In a recent communique to AP chief secretary IYR Krishna Rao, sources say that the law ministry had pointed out how local status can be given to the children of Hyderabad based AP employees with only a mere presidential assent.

In this regard, sources say that the AP government is all set to pass a resolution at the meeting of state cabinet in Vijayawada on August 29. The resolution, if it cleared by the state cabinet, will be forwarded to Centre for its approval by the president. The president, would be seeking legal opinion of Union law ministry before giving out his consent.

Thousands of AP employees working in Hyderabad are worried a  lot regarding the academic future of their children once they shift to Vijayawada since Hyderabad and Vijayawada come under different zones and people hailing from one zone become `non-local' in the other.
