In what is being seen as clear deviation from the land allotment norms, sources say that the Andhra Pradesh government had issued orders once again permitting the Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited (NCC) in using the 972.69 acres of land offered in the year 2008 in Srikakulam district, for creating a multi product industry zone.

The land was allocated initially to the company for establishing a 1980 MW capacity thermal power plant at Sompeta. The government during the recent cabinet meeting held in Vijayawada had scrapped the power project as well as the land allotment.

Now in a surprising move, sources say that the government has reportedly handed over the same land to this same developer and has also granted permission for developing this land parcel as a multi product industry zone. It has been given three years for taking up the new project.

Experts say that this is a clear deviation of the SEZ as well as land allotment rules. Moreover the land was reportedly allotted at the 2008 price of Rs 80,000 per acre to NNC without considering the prevailing market rates. This is being seen as a stark and disastrous U-turn by Babu.
