Reportedly the international cricket Council (ICC) has affirmed its stand against racism, saying the sport is nothing without diversity. The ICC shared a clip of the final moments of England's world cup win from 2019 in which Jofra Archer bowls the highly-dramatic Super Over. "Without diversity, cricket is nothing. Without diversity, you don't get the full picture," the ICC said. england had gone on to win their first-ever world cup with a team that had diverse cultures in its dressing room, led by Dublin-born Eoin Morgan. Notably, the World Cup-winning skipper had taken pride in the diversity in the england change room and how it motivated them to clinch the elusive world cup trophy.

ICC's reaction comes after several cricketers, including chris Gayle, spoke against racism in the aftermath of the killing of an African-American man, George Floyd during police custody in Minneapolis, US. A video clip of a police officer kneeling on Floyd's neck minutes before his death triggered massive protests across the globe. Several sports stars took a stand against racism and sporting federations across the world spoke up against the killing and in support of diversity.

t20 World Cup-wining west indies captain Daren Sammy had questioned the ICC's silence in the days after the killing of George Floyd while urging cricket boards and fellow cricketers to speak up against racism. Racism is not only in football, it's in cricket too. Even within teams as a black man, I get the end of the stick. Black and powerful. Black and proud," Gayle wrote in his instagram story. Former india fast bowler Dodda Ganesh opened up about his experience with racism after sharing a post of Abhinav Mukund's take on the issue from 2017. Dodda Ganesh said on social media "This story of @mukundabhinav reminded me of the racial jibes I went through in my playing days. Only an indian legend was witness to it. It only made me strong & didn't deter me from playing for Ind & ovr 100 mts for Karnataka".
