Nirmala Sheroan, the sprinter from Haryana did India proud by qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympics in the Women's 500 metres. She achieved a timing of 51.48 seconds at the  56th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship held in Hyderabad.


Nirmala Sheroan in the process came well under the qualification mark of 52.20 seconds on the 4th day of the meet organised by the Telangana Athletics Association.


Nirmala Sheroan will now join Dutee Chand,Odisha girl who earlier qualified fo the Olympics in the 100 meters category. Nirmala Sheroan finished top with  Kerala’s Jisna Mathew coming in second (53.14 seconds) and Sowndharya P N coming in third (53.85).


Nirmala Sheroan with her achievement now became the strong contender for the 4x400m relay team too.
