The 21st match of the Vivo IPL 2018, between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, began with the Mumbai Indians batting first. Though Kulkarni removed Lewis early, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan stood firm, setting up a solid partnership, as the former was more aggressive.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 72(47b, 6x4,3x6) while Ishan Kishan scored 58(42), but the middle order never really offered any resistance except for a brief support by Pollard (21) and ultimately Mumbai Indians scored 167/7 off 20 overs, with Archer claiming 3/22.

Rajasthan Royals began their Innings tenaciously, losing openers Rahane and Tripathi, before Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes took over and entered into damage control act. Pandya struck, removing Stokes (40), and then Bumrah's double attack removing the settled Sanju Samson 52(39) and the dangerous Butler, meant Rajasthan never came back into the chase.

However lower order batsman Gowtham had other ideas, as he went on scoring several fours and sixes, hitting an unexpected quickfire 33*(11b, 4x4,2x6) , as Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai by 3 wickets and 2 balls to spare.
