The first T20 match of West Indies tour of India began with India winning the toss and electing to field first. Windies began on a disastrous note, losing the opener Denesh Ramdin earlier for 2(5) before the other opener Hope 14(10) and Hetmyer 10(7) also departed in quick succession. Kieron Pollard stood for a while before being dismissed for 14(26).



Kuldeep Yadav struck twice, dismissing Dwayne Bravo 5(10) and Powell 4(13), leaving West Indies reeling at a dangerous 56/6, before tailender Allen 27(20) and Paul 15(13)* forged a brief stand to take windies to 109/8 in 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of Indian bowlers with figures of 3/13, while Pandya, Bumrah, Khaleel Ahmad and Umesh Yadav scalped a wicket apiece.



The Indian batting began on a worse note as the team lost both the openers, skipper Rohit Sharma 6(6) and Shikhar Dhawan 3(8) early, both being dismissed by Thomas, and Brathwaite scalped Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul 16(22), as India was struggling at 45/4. Manish Pandey and Dinesh Karthik forged a stand to resurrect India. Pandey departed for 19(24), and it was Dinesh Karthik's 31(34)* and Pandya's 21(9)* which took India to 110/5 in 17.5 overs, as India won by 5 wickets with 13 balls remaining.
