This may look like a wild speculation as both of them are sworn enemies now but spruces say that one of the main reasons for TDP’s dismal performance in 2009 apart from the Praja Rajyam factor was that the party had selected weak candidates in some really strong constituencies.

It is being said that KVP Ramachandra Rao, who is considered as YSR’s right hand made some ‘backroom’ deals with some politburo members of Telugu Desam Party and used them to see that the party doesn’t select strong candidates in few regions especially in Ranga Reddy and some districts of Rayalaseema.

This has inturn benefitted the Congress and YSR was made CM again. Even TDP sources say that Naidu’s too much trust on his coterie/inner circle is a major drawback for TDP. It is also believed that this coterie still exists and there are some members who still work with KVP discretely.
