Bethune College located in kolkata has added humanity in its religion column alongside religions like hinduism, islam, christianity, sikhism, buddhism, jainism and this new option of choosing Humanity has been included in their online application form.
Mamata Rai the principal of the Bethune college has said that the college management realized that many students do not have the interest or thought to mention their religion names in the college admission form, and hence understanding the reality that Humanity is what encompasses mankind, they have acknowledged the feelings of the students and respecting their views they have added the new category called humanity in the religion section.
The principal said that the decision was unanimously taken by the admission committee and this will not impact their course prospects and they will have to score to meet the demands for the scholarship. Students of the college are appreciating this unique move by the college.
