Thanks to the bonhomie between the Chief Ministers of both the Telugu States, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana Governments have come forward to bring in Ration Card Portability. Currently, most of the working class and poor families which migrate outside State are being deprived of their ration provided under the public distribution system (PDS).
Going forward due to this new system. people from AP who moved to Telangana get their monthly ration on their PDS cards from the place where they relocated to. Also, the same applies to those from Telangana who migrated to AP for various reasons and eligible for ration from the PDS system.
This portability system will come into effect from August 1st. Software is being upgraded to accommodate the new Ration System. Both the governments have inked an agreement to this effect already in fulfillment of Food Security Law, 2013. The Centre also gave a go-ahead to this end. Beneficiaries of the scheme in both the states are very excited about this move and also request the state governments to bring in portability in the Pension Scheme as well.
